Dragonshire, Tomb of the Spider Queen, Haunted Mines: Keep all Vikings in one lane. Both maps are two of the largest maps in game the objectives are far from the lanes and obtaining the objectives requires spending a good amount of time outside the lane. Cursed Hollow, Garden of Terror: Keep all three Vikings in different lanes. With that in mind, this is how I would recommend splitting for each of the maps: If the other players stay in the lanes with you then splitting becomes redundant in terms of soaking XP it might even be a liability since the Vikings' DPS is also split across the lanes, as opposed to all Vikings in one lane. The benefits of splitting depend on how long the other players intend to stay in lane and how quickly they can rotate between lanes and objectives. With regards to splitting I'd say it depends on map as well as team composition. I.e.: if the Vikings are together in a lane and, say, a Valla or Diablo shows up, it's okay to try to engage her/him directly to try and force her/him out of the lane. However, they are squishy enough that they cannot take on more than one opponent except in a teamfight. Grouped up, the Vikings have enough DPS that they can engage 1v1 (or 3v1?) with most heroes.

Dare to be more aggressive in lane when the objective spawns/enemies leave the lane. Keep Erik hidden in bushes close to the middle of the lane until everyone else leaves the lane to pursue objective. Keep Baelog and Olaf in the center of their respective lanes Olaf can take a lot of damage and Baelog's splash attack can push lanes quickly. General rule: split before 10, group after 10 with longboat. If you pop it at the back of your teamfight, the other team will run, but pop it after the melee has started, just behind your tank, and you're golden. Pop the boat after you've used Spin to Win then Jumped back.

When taking hard camps, position Baelog so that he's hitting all mercs, while Olaf and Erik target the caster merc, and place them so they all deal max dmg with spin to win. Always get Spin to Win, Jump and the cooldown reduction talent Norse Force is usually the best too, but 64kb marathon serves a similar purpose and may let you escape when you otherwise wouldn't. He can tank damage meant for others, so even if you have the other vikings soaking during that first mines/tribute, dont assume your lone Viking is useless. Olaf is useful on his own in teamfights early on, because of the regen. Extra globes are nice, but you won't be effective and will lose vikings. Do this throughout the game, when longboat raid is on cooldown. There's no reason to split them up early game, just be ready to send Erik off to cover a lane while others are going for an objective. You can practice this when doing Merc Camps. A good place to start is to make sure the Vikings are always properly lined up in a fight, so Olaf in the frontline and Erik in the backline. Other than that you'll probably figure out way more to do by yourself when getting used to their micro. This is when teamfights will start becoming more common, and you'll need the 3 vikings together to use the longboat ult which'll put you ahead in a lot of fights. Then as soon as you level 10 (if done right this should usually happen before the other team hits it because Erik is soaking experience regardless of teammates getting distracted) you can group them as 3.

Try not to spam clicks when attacking or you'll cancel Olaf's charge, which'll be horrible if you choose to get the stun talent later on. Then you'll want to put the other 2 in the same group (which you now can't do, so you'll have to select one and shift + click the other constantly) and control them as an autoattacking Hero. I usually a left click him every minion wave and then move him back a bit as the wave thins out and then a-move him back with the new wave. Keep an eye on the minimap and try to get in the habit of controlling him without moving the camera to him.

Control groups are broken this patch so it'll be a bit harder than usually, but in general you want to split Erik and the others up so he can AFK push a lane while staying safe.
